It is with great sadness that we ask everyone to take a moment today to remember and celebrate the life of Richard Milazzo, MD, a beloved primary care physician at General Physician, PC.
Dr. Milazzo suddenly passed away this week at the age of 80.
Friends, colleagues, and staff will remember Dr. Milazzo as a staple of the Dunkirk-Fredonia community, and beyond. He provided exceptional patient care for over 40 years, caring for multiple generations of families at the Dunkirk office of GPPC Primary Care. Dr. Milazzo retired from medicine in 2023 but continued to provide care to patients as part of the GPPC Home Visits team.
He studied at the State University of New York at Buffalo as well as Tufts University Medical School, and went on to complete an internship at Buffalo General Medical Center and residency at Dr. Edward J Meyer Memorial Hospital (Now ECMC).
Dr. Milazzo was affiliated with Brooks-TLC Hospital System, and worked tirelessly to ensure that Brooks Memorial Hospital remained open to better serve the patient population in Dunkirk. In his lifetime, he served as a volunteer and member of various Brooks-TLC boards and committees, including their Board of Directors.
Because of his commitment to improving access to health care in Dunkirk, Dr. Milazzo was awarded the Exemplary Service Award by the ACHE Recognition Program for Healthcare Leaders of New York. Former New York State Representative Catharine Young called Dr. Milazzo “an outstanding citizen, one who is worthy of the esteem of both the community and the great state of New York.”
Dr. Milazzo has left behind a legacy of unmatched patient care, and the heartfelt connections he forged over the years with his patients and colleagues will live on through those of us who were fortunate enough to work alongside him and learn from him.
We’d also like to express our deepest condolences to the team at the Dunkirk office, many of whom are testaments to the personal and professional relationships that Dr. Milazzo worked so hard to build.
