Three questions with Courtney Hannon, PA-C:

Q: Why did you choose primary care as your specialty?

A: It gives us providers the ability to see the patient as a whole person, and to be their point-of-contact and source of support when they don't know where else to go. I see all patients, but especially love providing care to my female patients, as I've been able to treat some young adults as well as some post-hysterectomy patients, in tandem with their routine OBGYN care. It's rewarding to combine my passion for both women's health and primary care into one.

Q: What differentiates you from other primary care providers?

I would say my follow-up with patients outside of their office appointments is what differentiates me from other primary care providers. I recognize how spending this extra time can make a difference, especially when establishing a relationship with new patients. I am a quick responder to any concerns or questions that patients may have. I'm a big advocate for using our patient portal to do this, but usually when patients call our office, I'm able to address those in a timely manner, as well.

Q: What areas of primary care would you say you're particularly interested in?

A: Mental health concerns! Since I started working at General Physician, PC in 2023, I've seen plenty of young adult patients struggling with their mental health, especially in the wake of the COVID pandemic. A lot of my patients transferred into my care from their pediatrician's office, where mental health was not talked about at those yearly appointments. I create a safe space for patients to come and talk to me about concerns and we work together to formulate a treatment plan that is best for them. Whether it's starting with counseling, trialing medication, or a combination of both, I've seen excellent results as I've supported patients with anxiety and depression, with the goal of helping them to truly enjoy their life again. I also prioritize follow-ups for these patients outside of office visits, whether it's by phone or patient portal.
